Fans of tough, survival-based first-person shooters will want to keep an eye on Beneath, a Lovecraft-inspired horror game created at indie studio Camel 101. Set on a research station beneath the Atlantic, the intense action has its sights on veteran FPS fans, as well as those who dig more old school single-player shooters in general, and a demo is now available.

The demo has you taking on he role of Noah Quinn as he seeks out surviving members of the research station’s biology team. True to the staples of both survival horror and classic shooters, supplies are hard to come by, so you’ll have to make every action count in this story-driven outing.

Check out a new trailer featuring Street Grease’s “No Way Out” as the backing track:

You can check out the demo on the official Steam page, which sums up the game like so:

Seasoned diver Noah Quinn’s routine expedition plunges him into chaos, trapping him in the depths of the ocean, where an ancient evil lurks. As supplies dwindle and nightmarish creatures close in, Noah must confront horrifying mutations and unravel a sinister conspiracy that threatens humanity itself.

With his daughter’s life hanging in the balance, Noah is pushed to his limits in a desperate race against time. Can he uncover the truth and stop an ancient horror from surfacing, or will the abyss consume them all?

Beneath is currently in the works for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a release penciled in for sometime this year.
