The Game Bakers, an independent Montpellier-based studio known for games like Furi, was planning to launch its latest project, Cairn, on November 5. Those plans have now changed, however, pushing the release date to sometime in Q1 2026.
Here’s what the team had to say about the delay:
“The tough decision was made to ensure Cairn is at its best at launch, and delivers the unforgettable experience players are expecting from the demo. The game is currently content complete and the few extra months of development will be spent on optimization, debug, and polish. The Game Bakers’ goal has always been to create games players remember long after playing them, and for Cairn, despite the team’s best efforts, this requires extra time.”
For those looking for something else to do in the meantime, the demo is about to be updated. Starting on October 13, the update will let climbers see the ghosts of other players for a limited time.

Creative director Emeric Thoa commented that “it makes no sense to rush it” after working hard on the game for the past five years. “We want to be proud of the game we launch,” Thoa added.
When Cairn arrives it will be available for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. Here’s the official description:
Reach a summit never climbed before in this survival-climber from the creators of Furi and Haven. Climb anywhere and plan your route carefully, managing pitons and resources to survive unforgiving Mount Kami. Discover what Aava is willing to sacrifice to achieve the ascent of a lifetime.
