If rhythm action games are your things and BPM: Bullets Per Minute just didn’t have enough of a throwback vibe for you, a new contender is here to put a pixel art spin on it. BPM developer Awe Interactive followed up 2020’s rhythm-based first-person shooter with the reveal of BPM Bitcrushed, a rhythmic roguelite that’s coming to consoles and PC next year.
Like the original BPM, the movement and actions of you and your enemies is tied to the beat of the music. This time around it just happens to come in the form of a top-down dungeon crawler.
BPM Bitcrushed Announcement Trailer
Bitcrushed was one of many games making its debut during this week’s gamescom 2025 event. The story tasks you with putting a stop to Ragnarok with the help of the Azure Ember, which could be the only key to the world’s salvation. Hel, the Queen of Helheim, has a different plan, though. She plans to speed up the approach of the end times by draining Melody Fragments from the Azure Ember.
Since this is a roguelite, failure is one of the many paths to success. Dying sends you back to The Sanctum, bereft of upgrades earned along the way but powered up with permanent unlocks. New characters, weapons and more can also be uncovered as you make your way through the doomed world.
There’s no specific release date beyond 2026, but look for BPM Bitcrushed to hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC once it’s ready.
