LUCID, an upcoming Metroidvania from Apogee Entertainment and solo developer Eric Manahan of The Matte Black Studio, is hoping to attract the attention of speedrunners with its latest preview. A new trailer made its way out of gamescom 2025 this week, putting a sharp focus on its lightning-fast movement and how that deft maneuverability translates to combat.

LUCID gamescom Trailer

LUCID puts players in the role of a young Sentinel named Oenn, who leaps and dashes through a crystalline world in the most “gotta go fast” of ways. Along the way he’ll dispatch enemies with the use of Crystal Arts, including a blade, spear and axe that can each affect mobility and combat in different ways.

There are also a bunch of upgrades to sift through and plenty of bosses that put Oenn’s expanding skillset to the test. We’ll find out how it shapes up when it hits PC via Steam sometime in 2026, followed by console ports at a later date. LUCID was already a success on Kickstarter, where it initially raised over $80,000 to fund development. For those who missed out but want the rewards, pledges are still open via PayPal.
