If your go-to RPGs include the likes of Wizardry, Ultima and the Shin Megami Tensei series, you’re in good company with Unison Games. The developer announced Descent of Lunaris, which is billed as a “love letter to classic dungeon crawlers.”

There’s no launch date at the time of this writing, but the game is currently in the works for PC with a release planned for Steam. You can see the first glimpse of its “modernized dungeon crawling” in the announcement trailer below.

Unison Games aims to hold true to a lot of the staples of the genre, including grid-based exploration, strategic party building and turn-based battles. Some of those surface similarities will begin to shift as players progress, though, with traditional combat making way for “tactical grid-based battles” that expand options for positioning, movement and area control. As a result, the team can make room for larger enemy groups, multi-phase boss fights and other wrinkles that should make the descent more interesting and challenging.

Along the way, players will piece together the narrative, discover hidden areas and optional fights and work to survive the “psychedelic nightmare” that awaits.

Stay tuned for more on this as details are revealed.
