Everyone waited with bated breath for the Hollow Knight: Silksong release date announcement, including the folks at Aeterna Lucis developer Aeternum Game Studios. The side-scrolling adventure was originally set for release this September, but now it’s being moved to 2026 so as not to clash with Silksong’s September 4 launch plans.
That’s not the only reason Aeterna Lucis is being postponed, though. According to the studio’s full message, they “don’t have all the necessary development kits to ensure a simultaneous release on all next-generation platforms,” so it looks like they’re still waiting for a Switch 2 dev kit to proceed.

As a result, the team will get some extra time to add polish to the game, which is apparently already finished. They added an extra note about Silksong to reassure everyone that there’s no bad blood mixed in with this decision.
“We also want to take this opportunity to thank Team Cherry,” the message continues. “There’s no need to wish them luck-we know Silksong will be a success and a masterpiece. Instead of rivalry, what we feel is gratitude: thanks to them, the Metroidvania genre is more alive than ever and, in fact, they were one of the main inspirations that led us to create Aeterna Noctis and the entire saga now in development.”
Aeterna Lucis is a sequel to 2021’s Aeterna Noctis. On top of the presumed addition of Switch 2, this one is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam).
